Here we took a bus ride into a Salt Mine. After descending a long flight of steps we emerged into a vast cavern hewn in the rock. Here there is a sanatarium where children are brought each day as the air in the mine is considered a cure for asthma and other lung disorders.

A chapel has been built in the mine also.

Lacu Ursu or Bear Lake situated in the mountain resort of Sovata Bai. was popular with bathers in the 19th century as its waters were said to be a cure for sterility. In the summer season people still like to come here and seek benefit from mud baths.

The place had  a very run-down look but then the season had not yet got under way.

The most popular means of transport in the countryside of Transylvania is the small wooden cart.

Wild strawberries were in season and Gypsies were turning them into a cash crop on the village streets.

The main thoroughfare of the village of Corund was lined with stalls selling locally made baskets, knitwear and pottery.
